Regional role for CBRE’s Alan Klein

Alan Klein has been promoted to head of CB Richard Ellis’ regional lease consultancy team.

Alan is a senior director at CBRE and heads up the lease consultancy business in Birmingham. He joined the firm in 1995, heading up the landlord, tenant and valuation team, before taking on his current role. Today, he manages a team of eight people, across leasing and rating.

Northern coup for Mills & Reeve

Law firm Mills & Reeve LLP has been named as a legal adviser to the University of Manchester.

The firm joins the University’s legal panel for the first time, alongside incumbents Pinsent Masons and Eversheds.

One of Birmingham’s most senior business figures is stepping down after more than five years at the helm of Deloitte, the leading professional services firm.

Richard Edwards, who heads up the firm’s Midlands practice, which includes offices in Birmingham, Nottingham and Cambridge, will step down as Midlands practice senior partner (PSP) in June and will retire from the firm in November. Continue reading

Dodworth named Young Chartered Accountant of the Year

Jonathan Dodworth has been awarded the prestigious title of Young Chartered Accountant of the Year in the West Midlands.

Jonathan, 34, a director at business advisory firm Deloitte, collected the award at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales’ (ICAEW) annual awards, which was held at the Botanical Gardens on Monday 10 May.

Ashley Hancox has been promoted to head of regional office agency at CB Richard Ellis.

Ashley has been head of office agency at CBRE’s Birmingham office since January 2008, when he joined the firm following its acquisition of Birmingham and Leeds property consultancy GSD. In addition to this role, he now takes on additional responsibility for co-ordinating office teams in CBRE’s other regional offices, including Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow Leeds, Manchester and Southampton.

With more than 20 years’ experience in the office consultancy market, Ashley has advised on key developments, acquisitions and disposals in both the city centre and out-of-town markets. He has worked on some of Birmingham’s most high profile schemes, including Snowhill, Two Colmore Square and Calthorpe House, and was instrumental in achieving Birmingham’s record headline rent at Colmore Plaza. New president takes the helm at Birmingham Law Society

 

Partner at Sydney Mitchell, Dean Parnell, has taken up the presidency of Birmingham Law Society.

He takes the baton from Bernard Shepherd, who stood down at the Society’s Annual General Meeting, and becomes the organisation’s 191st president.

A Welshman by birth, Dean came to Birmingham in 2000 to join the dispute resolution team at Pinsent Masons. He has been with Sydney Mitchell since 2004, specialising in commercial litigation.  He has also trained as a mediator and has clocked up more than 40 commercial mediations.

He takes the helm at Birmingham Law Society following a governance review, which will see the creation of a board of directors to take control of the day-to-day running, staffing and financing of the organisation.  This will release the president and the other professional officers to focus on the issues that are important to the membership. The Society’s council will have overall responsibility for the board and officer appointments, and it is planned that council members will have a more active role within the organisation.
