Two Brum law firms in running for top accolade

The private client team at law firm Mills & Reeve has scooped second prize in a prestigious national awards scheme.

The firm was beaten to top slot in The Lawyer magazine’s private client of the year prize by international law firm Taylor Wessing. The award, which celebrates excellence in the legal profession, was judged by a senior advisory panel drawn from City institutions and the media, as well as being based on the publication’s own research.

Mills & Reeve was not the only firm with a Birmingham office in the running for the honours: HBJ Gateley Wareing reached the shortlist.

For Mills & Reeve, the accolade follows on from winning the private client and family team of the year awards from Legal Business in February, and being shortlisted for the British Legal Awards’ title of the same name in November.

Matthew Hansell, a partner in the private client team in Birmingham, said: “The team goes from strength to strength, and it’s great that this has been recognised at a national level.”

Mills & Reeve now boasts both the largest family team in the world and the largest private tax team in the UK.
