Clients grant Mills & Reeve seal of approval in guide to UK legal profession

National law firm Mills & Reeve, which has a major office in Birmingham, is one of the country’s top performing law firms when it comes to client satisfaction, according to the latest edition of Chambers UK.

The annual guide, which accumulates feedback from thousands of clients, places Mills & Reeve in the top four law firms based on the number of top ranking lawyers and the top six based on the number of top ranking practice areas.

The impressive results further strengthen Mills & Reeve’s position as a major UK law firm. New national listings in contentious insurance claims, public sector law and governance and Court of Protection ensured a total of 14 UK-wide listings, one more than last year. Continue reading

Herculean effort from Mills & Reeve to bring home historic trophy

A team of cyclists from national law firm Mills & Reeve have pedalled to victory to bring a trophy back to its Birmingham roots.

A team of 12 riders, which included two employees from the firm’s Birmingham office, took part in the annual Hercules Corporate Sportive.

The Mills & Reeve team triumphed after completing a rigorous 100-mile course around the Rutland and Leicestershire countryside. The team crossed the finish line in 6 hours and 34 minutes to beat off stiff competition from seven other legal and financial services teams. Continue reading

Mills & Reeve advises on creation of groundbreaking Aston University Engineering Academy

National law firm Mills & Reeve has advised on the creation of a new £16 million university technical college in Birmingham.

Aston University Engineering Academy is the first university led and sponsored engineering academy to be created for 14 – 19 year olds in England. It offers science A-levels, engineering diplomas and apprenticeships, and has capacity for 600 students.

Mills & Reeve staff raise more than £10,000 for charity

Fifteen employees from the Birmingham office of national law firm Mills & Reeve have helped to raise more than £10,000 for charity.

The Birmingham-based team joined 49 other employees from Mills & Reeve offices around the country to take part in a “reverse jailbreak” challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The ‘jailbreakers’ were dropped at random locations throughout the National Peak District and were tasked with navigating up to 20 miles back to base in treacherous weather conditions. Continue reading

Mills & Reeve team exceed 100 academy milestone

A team of lawyers from the Birmingham office of national law firm Mills & Reeve have been instructed to advise on more than 37 new projects on behalf of several academies.

Mills & Reeve’s academies team will provide legal advice to schools and sponsors on issues including property, employment, PFI, corporate, pensions, and commercial contracts relating to the conversion and sponsorship of schools to academy status.

Mills & Reeve has a strong track record of advising on academies and to date has been instructed on more than 100 projects. John Grundy STEPs up as chairman

John Grundy, an associate at the Birmingham office of national law firm Mills &Reeve, has been appointed as chairman of the Birmingham branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

Mr Grundy took up the two-year post at the Society’s annual general meeting. He succeeds Alex Elphinston from Anthony Collins Solicitors.

A member of Mills & Reeve’s private client team, Mr Grundy specialises in advising clients on estate planning, wealth protection, trust formation and will writing. He has been an active member of the Birmingham branch of STEP for several years and heads its programme and technical committee. Continue reading
