Colliers International UK acquired by FirstService Corporation

Property consultants, Colliers International UK, has been acquired by FirstService Corporation and will operate as a wholly ownedsubsidiary of the company.

FirstService owns almost 90 per cent of Colliers International (by revenue) globally and through this acquisition the firm is able to ensure there will be no disruption in service to its clients or business activities.

As part of the deal, FirstService will assume Colliers International’s UK ownership interests in Ireland and Spain.

The UK management team remains unchanged, with Tony Horrell continuing as CEO of Colliers International UK & Ireland and as part of Colliers International’s EMEA Board and International Governing Committee.

Tony Horrell said: “We are delighted to now be fully integrated with Colliers International globally. This deal means that we have recapitalised the UK business and have the financial might of FirstService behind us, who intend to invest further 

in our business, as well as the global strength and depth of Colliers International to call upon.

Mills & Reeve staff prepare to battle the elements for fundraising challenge

This summer, 15 employees from the Birmingham office of national law firm Mills & Reeve will be taking part in a ‘reverse jailbreak’ challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The jailbreak challenge will take place on 16 June in the Peak District with the ‘jailbreakers’ dropped at random locations and tasked with navigating their way back to civilization. All the participants will have to walk a distance of between 15-20 miles and face additional challenges along the way. Continue reading

Major coup as specialist valuation team joins CBRE

CBRE has expanded its Valuation and Advisory Services team in Birmingham.

Rob Robinson and Rosie Young have joined the firm from Jones Lang LaSalle as director and associate director respectively.

The pair will head up CBRE’s new Specialist Markets Valuation team in Birmingham.

Both Rob and Rosie specialise in providing valuation advice for non-standard property assets, including student accommodation, landmark visitor attractions, ports, airports, sports stadia and specialised industrial facilities. Clients include lenders, developers, investors and corporates.

Prior to joining CBRE, Rob led Jones Lang LaSalle’s national Specialist Valuation team from Birmingham for eight years. Continue reading

Second time around for city firms at the Legal Awards

After narrowly missing out at last year’s event, Browne Jacobson has been named Law Firm of the Year (16+ partners) at the Birmingham Law Society Legal Awards.

The firm beat off stiff competition from fellow finalists DAC Beachcroft, DLA Piper, Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and SGH Martineau to collect the award.

The win rounds up a successful year for Browne Jacobson. Last year the Birmingham firm posted a record set of financial results with a 22 per cent increase in turnover. It also added a number of new companies to its client roster, including Standard Life and Guoman Thistle Hotels. Continue reading

Mills & Reeve appoints new Birmingham head of office

National law firm Mills & Reeve has appointed a new head of its 216-strong Birmingham office.

Steve Allen, a partner in the commercial disputes team, takes on the role with immediate effect. As head of office, Steve’s focus will be to build on the firm’s existing relationships to drive further growth across the Midlands.

The role was previously undertaken by Guy Hinchley, until he was appointed national managing partner of the firm in 2006.
