Deloitte calls on West Midlands entrepreneurs to share their views

Business advisory firm Deloitte has opened its annual survey of UK entrepreneurs for its report ‘Entrepreneurship UK: 2011/12’ and is calling on businesses in the West Midlands to take part.

Now in its fourth year, Entrepreneurship UK has become a leading report reflecting the current attitudes, performance and objectives of entrepreneurs and their businesses.

Ashley Hollinshead, entrepreneurial business partner at Deloitte in Birmingham, said: “The Entrepreneurship UK survey is an opportunity for the region’s entrepreneurs to give their views on how they are feeling and their plans for the future. It’s about getting a better understanding of what makes entrepreneurial businesses tick.

“Previous surveys have highlighted key issues such as raising and generating cash, investment and expansion into new markets, as well as the effects of the fiscal squeeze on their business. We want to know whether these issues are still relevant and, if so, how entrepreneurs in the West Midlands are dealing with them or what support is required, whether from Government, banks or the professional community.”

According to the results of the 2010 survey, more than half of entrepreneurs from across the UK were expecting to generate at least ten per cent revenue growth during 2011.  Just eight per cent projected zero or negative growth.

Mr Hollinshead said: “Despite an improved economic climate, market conditions remain very fragile.  This year’s survey will provide an interesting insight into entrepreneurs’ confidence in the coming months.

“Many will be looking at news ways of raising finance, expanding their revenues and containing their costs. The winners will be those who look to buck the trend, set a new, more dynamic tone, and take calculated risks.

“As a region, we need to ensure the entrepreneurial spirit and drive is not stifled by creating the right conditions for both established and fledgling businesses to thrive. The West Midlands is a hotbed of entrepreneurial talent that if nurtured correctly will help drive the regional economy forward.”

The survey is open until the end of July and takes just ten minutes to complete; simply visit: www.entrepreneurshipuk.com. The results, which will be analysed by Deloitte and the London Business School, will be published in late summer.  Each entrepreneur participating in the survey will receive a copy of the ‘Entrepreneurship UK: 2011/12’ report.

All responses will be analysed on an anonymous basis and will not be shared with any third parties.  The data will not be used for any other purposes outside the production and publication/promotion of the report.
